While our Woman of the Week segment is most commonly used to honor Skirt Collective’s writers and women in our local communities, we wanted to dedicate this week’s post to the women who are currently spending their time by risking their lives in an effort to bring peace to the Koreas by participating in #WomenCrossDMZ.
For those of you that are just tuning in, Women Cross DMZ is an effort organized by Christine Ahn who is joined by 29 other powerful female leaders from all over the world. This weekend, they are planning on walking the 2-mile divide between North and South Korea, one of the most dangerous DMZs in the world, in partnership with the women of both Koreas.
Though popular media is failing to offer the kind of attention this movement deserves, we believe in using our platform at Skirt Collective to bring awareness towards this historical, courageous and selfless event.
We also believe that had this event been executed by male world leaders, public focus on such an act would be rampant. It is with this theory that we proudly present and honor the 30 women included in this march, below.
Thank you so much for your work towards a more peaceful and just world. We love, honor and support you.[sc:shn-ad2]
