Ladies… they’re everywhere except for Vanity Fair covers apparently. Or, they’re there but they’re young and white and share the space with dudes. Sometimes, Vanity Fair does all-male shoots. But this year’s Hollywood issue is alllll ladies. Or as Vanity Fair calls them, “Hollywood’s Fiercest”.
Annie Lebovitz shot Jane Fonda, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lawrence, Viola Davis, Charlotte Rampling, Brie Larson, Rachel Weisz, Lupita Nyong’o, Alicia Vikander, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Helen Mirren, Saoirse, and finally Diane Keaton.
It’s amazing to see a magazine that hits racial diversity and age diversity. And I love that all the women are wearing slinky black outfits with some kind of sheen and there’s Diane Keaton, looking like she just Mary Poppins-ed her way into the shoot from the northern Siberia.
Yeah, there are still few women of color (Latina? Asian-American?) but this is a step in the right direction anyway. I hope every year Diane Keaton finds her way in, however. Every magazine cover needs a token Diane Keaton.
